David's name and origin

Gothenburg, a beautiful city

My city

Above are some pictures of my home town Gothenburg/Göteborg. From left to right:
  1. The barque Viking at our ships museum. Behind is one of our mini skyscrapers where among others IBM has it's Swedish head office. Once I danced in a jitterbug show wearing real Swedish Navy uniform in front of the destroyer and other navy ships in that ships museum.
  2. A museum tram. (That's a trolley or streetcar for you Americans.) We still have trams in Gothenburg and since I once worked as a tram driver I just had to have a picture. Although the trams I drove were way more modern. In fact, they were so modern that their most common breakdown was almost daily computer failures. Thankfully a reboot usually made the tram work again. The same company that made the computers for our trams made the computers for the nuclear power plants in Sweden... And no, I am not kidding.
  3. A flag with our new Gothenburg logo. The new logo has not been officially approved but since it is cheaper and easier to print people and even the city itself tend to use the new one more and more. I kind of liked the old lion logo better though.
  4. The sea God Poseidon posing at the end of our main street "Kings Gate Avenue". Poseidon is often used as the symbol of our city even though the lion on the flag is the official symbol.

My name and my origin

I am northern European by heritage (Swedish-German-Polish). My family name (Göthberg) is very Swedish and the name actually has the same origin as the name of the city I live in (Göteborg/Gothenburg). When non-Swedes hear my name and see my looks they often erroneously conclude that I am Jewish. But you know, not all Swedes are tall, blond and blue eyed. (But quite a few are.)
